Change is Good

Last night I had a great basketball skill training session with three players. The take home message I tried to get across to all three of them is, they must completely buy into making positive changes in their skills in order for change to stick.

Athletes must learn that changing a pattern will feel awkward, look poor at times and be frustrating. But, continuing to rehearse the new skill pattern for as long as it takes to create automatic response with no deep thought is the goal.

Most athletes are not willing to be patient because it means “looking and feeling awkward” for a short time. That is why there are very few “GREAT” athletes and a lot of good and average athletes.

My advice….

Be Different, Be Special and Be a “One Percenter”!
